Choice Coventry Hills Property in Calgary Becomes Canada’s First Retail Building to Achieve CAGBC’s Zero Carbon Design Certification

Choice Properties sets new benchmark for low carbon retail development

It started as a vision to prove that sustainable design and community convenience could thrive under the same roof. Today, that vision stands proudly at 100 Country Village Road in Calgary. Spanning 27,000 SF, our Choice Coventry Hills property has become the country’s first retail building to earn the Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) Design certification from the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC).

This milestone isn’t just about innovative architecture, but reimagining the everyday. Home to essential retailers like Shoppers Drug Mart and Dollarama, the site is proof that sustainability and daily convenience can coexist.

How did we do it?

The Choice Coventry Hills project piloted key measures to operationalize low-carbon design in retail spaces by:

• Enhancing building envelope performance
• Electrifying the mechanical system
• Installing on-site solar panels for renewable power generation

In collaboration with Edge Consultants and Priopta, our team modeled a building that exceeds code requirements and demonstrates what scalable, sustainable retail can look like.
